Sex Education Intro Titles

After adding text, which was lyrics from the song ’Strange Town’ by The Jam, to my original images of buildings, I started to notice a similarity between my work and the intro titles from the TV show Sex Education.

Therefore, I decided to research them a bit more, watching a video on YouTube of all the intro’s from series 1 to 3. (Which you can watch here.)

After watching this is realised one thing that makes them so effective is how they fit into the surroundings of that scene. For example, fitting behind cars and buildings, or simply seeming to float in the sky, but still fitting into the perspective of the background.

The colour of the font also changes each episode, either contrasting or harmonising with the surroundings. This makes it more interesting to the viewer and also helps to set the scene, giving an idea of the atmosphere and mood.

Overall, this has inspired me to possibly experiment more with how my text fits in with the surrounding, and I would like try more interesting ways that the text can become part of buildings. As well, as using a range of different colours that contrast with the rest of the photograph.
